Re: Help me find old arcade vertical shmups
Help me find the game. Played about 30 years ago (~1992). Vertical shmups. The spaceship is similar to xevios, but the background is at first simple dark with the stars? Further the background as if over the big spaceship or base flies (yellow/sand color), there start spaceships on the runways. Similar to Omega Fighter but not. The player's ship has lasers, and a sight for missiles that shoot at the bunkers (like Xevious). All spaceships are small. Remember enemy little ships shooting with a flamethrower. Arcade cabinet ordinary, a little old type, coloring dark tones. I've been looking for a long time. Revisited a ton of games, can't findRevisited a ton of games, can't find.

Re: Eurobits - Sega Master System Retrospectives
The Sega Master System (SMS) is a third-generation 8-bit home video game console manufactured by Sega. A cost-reduced model known as the Master System II was released in 1990 in North America and Europe. The original Master System models use both cartridges and a credit card-sized format known as Sega Cards.

The Sega Genesis, known as the Mega Drive outside North America, is a 16-bit home video game console developed and sold by Sega. The Genesis is Sega's third console and the successor to the Master System. Several add-ons were released, including a Power Base Converter to play Master System games. I've been going through this game plants vs zombies and find that some levels can be very challenging. It took me a few days to get out of one specific level.

Re: Atmospheric Games
Of all the games you mentioned, Dark Souls III is my favorite.
One of the best games I've ever played. The basically non-existant story makes it very easy to come back to. The gameplay and difficulty is based on your build. The viable builds are extremely varied, and though the difficulty is very high, it's always beatable and everything about it is pure class all around. There have only been a couple dozen games that get the highest possible recommendations from me, and this is around the very top of that.

Re: Resident Evil (1996) - all scenes / Metal Gear Solid - 1998 (almost all codec calls)
Resident Evil HD Remaster is definitely one of the best Resident Evil games out there, my personal favorite! The tank controls or even the alternate controls can take some time to get used to for the casual gamer. But once you get used to the controls, the game becomes more fun. The game takes place in the Mansion. The Mansion is very spacious in the places you can access so backtracking and getting lost will happen on your first play through quite often. This can scare away new players from finishing this game but I strongly recommend for those who experience this at an extreme level to fight through it.

Re: Eurobits - Sega Master System Retrospectives
Hello everyone!

I've used some World of Longplays footage for a video project I started recently and ScHlAuChi recommended I post about it on the forums here.

The show is called Eurobits and focuses on European releases of Sega Master System games. They're tiny 5ish minute videos that try to be informative. My goal is for it to be a starting point for people interested in a particular SMS game, and then they can look up more details about it on sites like SegaRetro or the World of Longplays channel if interested (or even better, have them play the games themselves).

The way I've been using videos from this site is primarily when I have to talk about non-Master System ports, or when I mention other games related to the subject at hand. You can check it out in the Action Fighter and Choplifter episodes.

Anyway, just wanted to inform folks here how their work is helpful and also show you the end result of me using it. Happy Holidays!

Re: Atmospheric Games
Hello, everyone.

I've been a life-long fan of games with great atmospheres, meaning that the game presents its internal world to you in a manner that allows you to feel enveloped or drawn in to it, this isn't always relative with the experience of immersion. My earliest examples and favorites are Donkey Kong Country (SNES), Space Quest (PC) & Sweet Home (NES). Current examples and favorites are No Man's Sky (PC), Subnautica (PC), Dark Souls III (PS4), Bloodborne (PS4), Doom (PS4), & many more.

So, the question of this thread is: What are your thoughts regarding "Atmospheric Games" (Positive & Negative are equally welcomed.) & what are your experiences with them (If you don't mind sharing with the forum)? Smile

Re: Resident Evil (1996) - all scenes / Metal Gear Solid - 1998 (almost all codec calls)
For RE (1996) / DC (1997) I decided to not only display all the several scenes, I looked into the rooms and objects, contemplating them, the same for the letters and the rest. I gave enough time for the viewer to read what the texts said, for example.

That's why it took so many hours to record everything. It was all saved in FRAPS @ 1080p-60fps. Game Shark codes were used (also for MGS), to make things easier.

This project tried to once and for all encompass all aspects from this game.

Besides what the FAQ instructed, I did the following:

- Video #1

- Kenneth's Body after Zombie Attack 2: 6:34:04 - Watch this video for more info:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpFmT8FF15Y

Kenneth's legs are missing if Jill take too long to go there. This is a cool "easter egg" that many have not paid enough attention.

Wesker dead in the Power Room (the last room with Chimeras/Lab Monsters): 8:23:54 - many people never realize Wesker is there (where he triggered the alarm), because they don't have to return to this room to complete the game.

I too thought he escaped, but he was actually killed. That's also why he returns as a zombie in the Sega Saturn version, in a mini-game.

Video #2

- Scene 4b-c: Fail to save her: The Hunter decapitates Rebecca after you take too long to reach the Library (not mentioned by the FAQ): 4:07:22

And:

- Jill - The locked door from the 2F that has a keypad (note: only Jill can open, after Barry gives her the pass number): 4:35:47 - there's nothing special about this part, it's only a shortcut, still many people think this is a secret room that can NEVER be opened. It can, but it's a path you don't bother to go after you move further in the game. And, of course, Chris can't do it.

Briefly commented here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkMz9ePu_Ho

- Chris - Unlimited Rocket launcher, Special Key and the wardrobe room: 4:45:16

- Jill - Unlimited Rocket launcher, Special Key and the wardrobe room: 4:52:32

One thing odd about the original Resident is that once we change the clothes we can't go back and use the original ones. This was fixed in the Director's Cut.

MISSING FROM VIDEO #2 (CHRIS): NEPTUNE CGI (unfortunately I was unable to activate this for him). It's exactly like the one from Jill, the only difference is that it shows Chris's back in the last 1-2 seconds.

ADDED TO VIDEO #2: (all these from the japanese version):

As for Metal Gear it was impossible to enable all the codec calls (that's why I said ALMOST ALL), and I have not reviewed that full text dump TXT file and removed the duplicate entries (compared to my recording), while writing in a new file the order in which my videos show these dialogues.

I started doing that:

https://pastebin.com/kMHvRyKq

Yet have stopped, since it was taking too much time.

For the record, this is the full text dump:

If I could find a similar FAQ I could do another recording.

Re: Resident Evil (1996) - all scenes / Metal Gear Solid - 1998 (almost all codec calls)
I've already seen the cutscenes of Resident Evil (Original and Directror's Cut) multiple times. Metal Gear Solid however I'll have to look into that.

Re: Resident Evil (1996) - all scenes / Metal Gear Solid - 1998 (almost all codec calls)
I decided to follow this FAQ for Resident Evil (1996, PlayStation, and Director's Cut 1997):

FAQ: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/198454-resident-evil/faqs/20010

Playlist:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCAm_SFVMXIK4GqnsybOwumGanZJkAgfd

And I think I recorded all scenes from the game. There's also a post in commentary section where I list when each scene can be found.

The 1st video has 8h35m, the 2nd (Chris) 5h25m and the 3rd (Director's Cut) 4h55m.

***********

For Metal Gear Solid (1998, also PlayStation):

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCAm_SFVMXILd8eHEqKujBP0obvaH710k

5 videos were recorded, with almost 15 hours. Unfortunately not all codec calls were recorded, but most of them were.

Full text dump:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/197909-metal-gear-solid/faqs/15129

Playlist:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCAm_SFVMXILd8eHEqKujBP0obvaH710k

*******

In the MGS case I didn't finish checking the order each codec conversation was recorded, based on the full text dump.

I would have to verify all the 15 recorded hours and write when each dialogue can be heard. I would also need to delete all duplicate entries and notice which ones are missing from this recording. Since it would take a lot of time to do this I didn't do it.

******

For Resident Evil 2 and 3 (PSX), where can I find a similar FAQ?
