I'm not trying to record anything, but I was wondering if there are any ways to record longplays on games from Nintendo's 3DS or Sony's Playstation Vita. Both are most recent handheld systems, with 3DS released in 2011 and PS Vita in 2012.

I really don't think there are any emulators out there capable of perfectly reproducing the 3DS not with the 3d Aspect anyhow, there are a couple of DS emulators I myself, and probably most others that record DS games here use Desmume. As for the PSVita I guess you would need something similar to the remotejoylite, that allows you to play the games on a computer monitor or some such thing, I don't have a PSP or a PS Vita, so I don't know how that works exactly... Ask the Tsunami!

But back on topic:
3DS is pretty much IMPOSSIBLE since there's no emulator that can emulate 3DS or whatever. Sure, there are ROMs on the interwubz, but you can't use them anyway.
As for Vita: you can't even record that either because Vita doesn't have Video Output and it hasn't been fully hacked yet (I think there's some progress, but I'm not keeping up with the PSV Scene...if there IS one). Maybe when there's another revision, which will be no time soon. PROBABLY in about 3 years (PSOne took about 6 years. PSP-2000 took about 3 years. PS2 Slim took about 4 years. PS3 Slim took about 3 years. I'm vouching for about 3 years.)

Your only option in recording: the Camcorder.

Well I know somebody on a speedrunning site who currently has a mod of the 3ds that can record video on a pc. The cost to get your 3ds modded for recording might be as much as the 3ds itself but it is worth it. I might even consider finding some way to get 500 bucks or so and get a 3ds (used with ambassador program preferred). If so, I might do the first 3ds longplay, probably Ocarina of Time 3D or New Super Mario Bros. 2.

Can't really say anything about Vita as I don't really care for the system anyways.

Long answer: HELL NOOOOOOO

Don't even suggest it. Someone will read this, do it with their camera-setup, spend hours and hours recording and editing, and will then be rejected faster than the speed of light. End result? No new content, and one possible future uploader pissed off and possibly never trying again.
