"Half animal, half machine, S.C.A.R.S. is ready to rip the road to shreads. Join in a frenzied 3D arcade speedfest with multiplayer racing and tooth and claw combat. Powerful cars, stunning courses with undulating landscapes and staggering special effects makes this a game to kill for."

Animals crossed with machines into vehicle combat racing ........O....K.

The game is well presented and looks really nice with some very good texture work and effects which really stick out in the night racing. The game is split into multiple events which get larger as you progress. I wanted to show each in use to win them but the game was having non of it and demanded that you use the fastest unlocked cars to stand a chance of winning. This is where the game stops being fun to play.

There are only about 6 tracks and in the larger gp you will race them again in mirror mode. To try and shake things up they will differ between night/day and weather versions. Every racing game ever has a lead car for you to beat in order to get a good standing, else the lead car will take it every time. This game is not shy about letting you know that the lead car is the Boss car which you need to beat in every round. It doesn't matter how many times you shoot this car with the various game weapons, he will always be in front of you or on your back wheels, you can never shake it off and win by a huge margin. A problem with this is if you take a hit, you drop right to the back and it can be tricky to catch up and the lead car will race off never to be seen again. And according to the final score board it wins in just one lap :/

After each GP you get the chance to race in a challenge. Wining these challenges unlocks the Boss car. It is highly recommended to take the boss car into the next gp as the next boss car you race against will have even higher stats. By the time you get to the last gp, the game has become a real frustration. The last challenge to unlock the panther car is ridiculous. Some tracks including this one have zones where the ai car enters warp speed and you car has to come to a near stop to take the corner, no matter which car you are in. I didn't get to show off the mantis vehicle.

The controls are not great. You cant just hold the button down and win. You have to know when to throttle and when to not else your car just slides out to the sides when taking corners while the other drivers look like they are on a scalextric track taking every corner at max speed. The courses are all quite short and cramped. Each track has shortcuts which can either help or hinder you. They are not always easy to spot either but be sure to keep an eye on the opponent cars as they do know where they are and do make good use of them.
