Player's Review

Not much to say about this one. It is a conversion of Cabal for the US market. Along with Bionic Commando capcom seems to have a hard time converting games to the C64 which pale in comparison to their European counterparts.

The game wastes no time with presentation and quickly jumps straight into the game without any input required from the player. The levels look pretty garish with mixed standard and hires sprites on a highly dithered playfield.

The game plays fast and enemy projectiles can move so fast, the game wont be able to draw them killing you in an instant. The enemy ai isn't particularly clever allowing you to find a sweet spot avoiding their fire while being able to kill them as soon as they appear on screen. Grenades seem to auto fire without being drawn or visually exploding. Levels ca be over quickly depending on how the scoring and hit detection is working.

Once the game is completed or over, the game quickly moves through the highscore table and starts over. Overall this version of the game is very poor and should be avoided. Better go play the excellent SpecialFX/Ocean conversion. It does highlight the fact that how well a game turns out is very much on the developers skills and not entirely the fault of limited hardware.
