Right from the start, the game appears to be modelled on Sega's arcade games such as Sega Rally and SuperGT and that's not a bad thing. The game is very well done and from the way it looks and plays, you might think Sega had developed the game it self, I mean it would not have looked out of place on the Saturn but no, all credit to Genki for this great arcade racer on the N64.
The game consists of three tracks that has you racing around for three laps. What makes this rally/driving game a little different is that each track has road forks that can split off into dirt track which is usually shorter than the main road so taking these can save some time. However you car needs to be suited to dirt track and that usually means a slower overall vehicle so there is some strategy involved for winning and getting good times. Messing with the car setup can help a lot and id say required for the later championship.
The longplay goes through the championship first. The way the game is structured you can choose which track to lay and which vehicle to take. I try to mix it up and use different vehicles for each race but its a small selection as there are a few cars that don't drive well at least on standard settings. Completing the Hard track results in the games Credit Roll.
Completing the championship unlocks Match 1 which takes you through the three tracks again but against the Hannya car. This car takes the road routes. Completing this mode unlocks the car and onto Match 2. Match 2 is against the deus buggy and it takes all the dirt track routes. Completing Match 2 unlocks the buggy for your use as well as the mirror tracks. Finally I run through the championship mode again thinking it will be six tracks but no, its broken down into the normal three so I play both the forward and mirror tracks. This time it is against the unlocked cars making the championship quite difficult and maybe not possible to win without the unlocked cars, the devil car specifically. Nothing is unlocked for completing this mode again nor any special ending. The video closes with a time trial of mountain to see if anything happened for beating the title screen record (Press R), it didn't .
Overall this is a good game in stark contrast to Automobile Lamborghini released in the same year. Imagineer Co would go on to release GT64 Championship edition and make you wonder what went wrong as it doesnt play well at all. They should have stuck with Genki.
