Dracula II: Noroi no Fuuin (Fan Translation)
|
Player's Review
Plot: 'Set seven years after the events of the first installment, the player once again assumes the role of vampire hunter Simon Belmont, who is on a journey to undo a curse placed on him by Dracula at the end of their previous encounter. Dracula's body was split into five parts, which Simon must find and bring to the ruins of Castle Dracula in order to defeat him.'
The gameplay mechanics were inspired by another title from the same people named The Maze of Galious, which was released on MSX and NES (latter remained Japan only), and served as the base for the later titles starting from Rondo of Blood (and later Symphony of the Night) due to its non-linear progression. A FDS version was released in Japan as well, featuring a slightly better soundtrack as well as the ability to continue your progress from a saved slot.
The longplay shows how to complete the game with the objective of getting the best ending possible in this game, which means it has to be completed in less than 8 in-game 'days'. All 13 Clue Books found, as well as every possible equipment except for the Thorn Whip that can be bought from a merchant in the Town of Jova (his location is shown in the longplay though), the aforementioned whip looks exactly like the starting one while doubling attack power. The other two endings are also included at the end of the video. There is an 8-minute grinding session in Laruba Mansion with the purpose of maxing out Simon's level. Leveling up bumps HP and defense, but not attack power, the latter is completely dependent on whip upgrades from shops.
