Player's Review

"The earth-based "Grauzon" computer defense system has been 'net-jacked: Mankind's future in space is in your hands! This highly modified SA-77 "Silpheed" tactical fighter spacecraft is up to the challenge...are you? The best space shooter ever, with 11 fast, tough. action-filled battle stages. Amazingly detailed polygon graphics and CO quality music and sound. Left and right main weapons, plus choice of optional weapons systems: Graviton Bomb, EM Defense System. Photon Torpedo or Anti-Matter Bomb. O'Clear channel' voice communications from other pilots alert you to the next threat coming your way. Enhanced graphics and sound, exclusively for Sega CD."

A good arcade shoot em up utilising pre rendered fmv backgrounds as you battle 3d polygon sprites. This has to be one of the best looking fmv games on the SegaCD and perfectly sells the illusion that it is being rendered in real time. It plays well enough as you manoeuvre your ship around the enemies and background objects you can collide with.

There are 12 levels to battle through and you need to do it with one life. Get destroyed and its game over. To aid you in your fight for survival you have a shield which can take a few hits but once its gone you risk losing engines and weapons before finally being destroyed. As you complete levels you are awarded with a choice of upgraded weaponry. The amount of energy you are rewarded with depends on how much you survived with from the previous round. As you earn upgrades you can choose to kit out the left and right side of the ship separately as well as choosing a special weapon.

The longplay goes through all 12 stages to roll the credits, nothing is unlocked. It was touch and go at the end as the final level is split into two stages and you don't get to choose a weapon and refill energy in between so it is important to make a good choice before starting stage 11 and try to save the special weapon for the end.
