Re: The search engine does not work properly
So, when i search for only one word among longplays, then it is perfectly fine. But when i type more than one word it only shows the 1st page properly, and trying to go to another page, it tells me there are 0 results.

For example, this is page 2 for the search "lava water": http://longplays.org/search.php?stype=longplays&stext=lava%2Bwater&method=OR&datelimit=0&fields=2&sort=datestamp&order=0&chars=50&forum_id=0&rowstart=10

In this URL, the space between the two words is replaced with %2B, this is the percent-encode for +.

However, if we replace %2B with either the actual + or %20 (the latter is the percent-encode for space), then it works perfectly fine: http://longplays.org/search.php?stype=longplays&stext=lava+water&method=OR&datelimit=0&fields=2&sort=datestamp&order=0&chars=50&forum_id=0&rowstart=10

Re: Why Patreon is difficult to reach?
Hi there!

I just sign in for the first time and perhaps I'm wrong but, why is so difficult to get to your Patreon?

You are definitely doing an amazing job, you have surpass the 1 million subs mark at Youtube! Me and obviously many others, we all are really thankful for your content.
I honestly think that the link for your Patreon should be clearly visible on any video description, at the top, side menu and bottom of your web.
An easily found section on the web explaining why everybody should be throwing a dollar your way on Patreon, which is undoubtly because your are awsome, will help too.
Also on the FAQ of the page, you should promt the same question you have on the About section of the Youtube Channel: "How can I donate to World of Gameplays?" alongside a link to Patreon on the answer, which is not linked on the About section of Youtube by the way. And there is no embedded link to Patreon on the header of the Youtube Channel either.

I mean, everywhere you can imagine you should definetely be proud of your incredible content and ask for Patreon Supporters. Right now the only way I found to get to your patreon was to head myself to Ptreon and use the "search for creators" field to find your Patreon page.

I'm sure that if you make the link to Patreon more visible, you will get more supporters. You are awesome already and people appreciate what you do.

Let people know how to support you! Let people shout out loud : "Long live World Of Longplays!!"

Thanks for having created such an incredible, useful and enjoyable content! Wink

We are not considering those platforms for our site anytime soon. Main reason it's because of the plethora of cloned games filled with ads.

Re: Do WoL have large bandwidth limit?
I recently downloaded a lot of videos and I became scared I might put you in trouble. Is there a limit regular visitors should not exceed or you guys have a huge limit not to worry about?

I'm also considering to send a donation. I'm not a fan of Patreon, is there a way I can send a donation via paypal to support your website?

Re: Website Theme Error Blocking Website Access
Additional technical information:

The theme I selected was Rocket.
The themes I have read in other reports have been: Pastel & Dark.
Debug information was very limited due to null delivery, but I was able to gather a single error report when trying to enter the WOL's news webpage.
"Fatal error: Call to undefined function check_panel_status() in /home/mattbwz225/domains/longplays.eu/public_html/themes/templates/panels.php on line 59"
There are not any third-party debug information that I could find on this issue.

That is all my first-hand information & experiences of this site issue, along side all important information that I could collect. I hope it helps, if a site moderator or admin would like me to modify/move/explain anything in-relation to this thread, please simply pm or email me, I will comply ASAP to your request.

Thank you for reading, I hope this thread will at-least prevent a few headaches or lost community members to this wonderful website in the future.

Re: Website Theme Error Blocking Website Access
A serious issue regarding the ability to change theme's in profile, many of them do not work and will effectively lock an user out of their account. The issue is essentially so that once a user has selected an alternative theme, the WOL's website server can not display anything to the user, resulting in a black or grey screen for the average user. This is however not simply an color overlap, but this error completely prohibits the site's HTML and PHP code from loading to the user, essentially blocking the user's connection to the site thereafter as-long as their logged-in after that point.

This issue affected me when I was previously setting up my first account this morning and was exploring the customization options in the site, I was unable to resolve the error and simply created a new account, avoiding the theme options hereafter. Afterwards, a DuckDuckGo web search and a WOL's forums search show that this is a known issue for many previous users of this website, I can trace it to about 2015 when it was first mentioned in these forums. I can confirm through my own experience with this website glitch, it is server side and independent of the average user's browser choices and configuration.

The issue might be very complex to solve or even isolate and I do not think it affects 100% of WOL's user-base. I simply hope this can assist others who are newer to the WOL's website or have simply never heard of this issue, up till now. This is a warning to be exceptionally careful when adjusting your theme options within "Edit Profile", you might be at risk of this website error.

Thank you for your time.

Re: post the leveling up in games as separate split videos
IMO, they could be upped as unlisted videos so they don't visually clutter the page, as they are no longplays, then just have a link to them in the main longplay.

Re: post the leveling up in games as separate split videos
I was reading the comments on the Dragon Warrior game on youtube and apparently two leveling up sections were cut out of the video. You all ought to post those as separate leveling up videos that could be watched optionally (for example, named like leveling up 1 from level 1 to 8, leveling up 2 preparing for end, or something along those lines). and link them from the first upload somehow so they are together. Re: Manuals/Instructions for the games read aloud
First off I got this idea because my daughter watches read aloud story books on You Tube. They read the story to her. It's convenient for me sometimes to let her do that.

I think it would be great and you all could make money or whatever you are in it for (subscribers, whatever), if you all could record the manuals to the games being read aloud. It would need to be read clearly, of course. I don't know how many times I sat down and tried to play a game without a manual and never can figure it all out. I used to buy and sell games on ebay. I always loved reading through the manuals of the games I bought just to see what it was all about. I think a read aloud type video format would be right up your alley and very useful to everyone that ever played these old games without a manual like I have. Watch some read aloud story books for example but they lay the book flat and show it on the video while someone reads through it.

Re: Why are long WoLP longplays split into serveral parts on YouTube?
Usually file size is a big factor for splitting videos. Video length not so much. Larger file have a higher chance of an upload error due to a random disconnection for instance and resume feature doesn't always work. Then there is the risk factor of the larger/longer video processing properly and sometimes getting stuck at 240p

While I much prefer Single files for simplicity, file can be split where it makes sense to, like a chapter change. I don't like it being right in the middle of gameplay. If you look at any split video on our ytube channel, it is usually only the first and last file that's gets views as most viewers just want to see the intro and ending.

I do add time stamps to the descriptions where appropriate in my videos and would of course like for all other longplayers to do the same. It allows the play through to also double as a walkthrough along side a guide if you can point out where specific story / chapters / levels are in the video.

Re: Why are long WoLP longplays split into serveral parts on YouTube?
Hiya,

I thought it would make more sense to not split the longplays into several parts since that kinda screws up the whole point of voting and commenting on them on YouTube as then the votes and comments are split onto several videos too, making interacting with the the video and viewerbase more difficult, not to mention trying to get accurate data about view numbers and votes etc. I bet that using singular videos would even rack up a higher view count on the counter, which in turn would gain the channel even more popularity and ad revenue.

I know that at first glance it would seem logical to split themn into parts as one might argue someting like that it's much easier to browse through the video and find the spot where you left off in the case you didn't finish the longplay in one sitting, but the reality of the matter is that YouTube saves your progress. Furthermore, you can put timed links into the video description if you absolutely want to segment the longplay, which in my opinion would be a way better solution as it enables you to make more detailed divisions, e.g. if the game itself is split into several chapters, you can make a marker for each one.

I guess one solid counter argument would be that it takes too long to upload them as a single video. I don't know how much time a 30h video would take to upload, but it can't be THAT bad since they are in single segment on the WoLP sever too.

The reason for the splittage wasn't explained in the FAQ so I tought I'd post my question here instead, in the guise of a suggestion.

Re: Media info in description
Of course! I am not arguing with that - record 8k if it native for the game (or if you want that for some reason) but simply add extra line to description about media info. Will hurt no one, and there will be no confusion.

that stuff should be whatever the game's native specs are for framerate and resolution, whoever is doing 4k games is not supposed to and those longplays need to be replaced

Re: Media info in description
Hello!
Can longplayers add very basic media info in description? Resolution + fps (30, 60, 55) + bitrate would be enough.
I stumbled upon some 2k60fps (even 4k I think) videos. That was unexpected. I would rather wait for that videos to appear on YT and choose more bandwidth-friendly format.

P.S. Happy New Year Everyone!!! Smile
