Hey all,

Just trying to get a general idea on if "Long Plays" are still worth uploading these days or does everyone prefer 8-10 min vids with lot's of cuts, which just more comes of as a best of.

I still play games that are fairly decent in length so cutting down I feel takes away form

A:The Atmosphere Of The Game

B:And The General Joyance Of Going Through a game together with your favorite Youtuber.

Or would you say Livestreaming has basically made "long play" redundant now.

Livestreaming isn't for me. I prefer to download huge videos from longplays.org as I don't need commentary from the player. I can make up my own in my head. Also I don't get constant ads like on YouTube.

I submit longplays to document the gameplay and experience at its best quality. Streaming is the more dominant method as of today, but it's dependent on host scheduling and viewer engagement. At least here, longplays are intended to be an archive of the game to access at any point and preserve the game as close to it's intended presentation as possible. It's about as worth it as museums can be. Still plenty of merit.

Longplays have several uses. Some watch it just because they want to see the game and not play it, others to compare their playthrough with someone else's without cuts and all the show around it. Some people make videos where they just need certain parts of a game - so why should they play 10 hours when they can look up a longplay and get the scenes form there?

And making a longplay of todays game might seem like a waste of time but what about 10, 20, 30 years later? Maybe you want to have a stroll down the memory lane and remember games you used to play.

I personally make longplays of games I enjoy playing several times over. So I figure why not record my next playthrough? So I guess you question should be "were longplays of old games worth it"?
