Monster World IV

Player's Review
(06.06.2017) EDIT: I replaced my longplay. Now it uses localized version of the game, instead of fan-translated one.
Monster World IV is an action-adventure platformer, developed by Westone and released exclusively in Japan by Sega for the Mega Drive in April 1994. It is the sixth and final game in the Wonder Boy/Monster World series. Monster World IV was later released for the PlayStation 2 as part of the Sega Ages 2500 series under the name Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 29: Monster World Complete Collection. It was released on the Wii's Virtual Console service in Japan on January 15, 2008. An English-language version was released in North America and Europe for Virtual Console on May 10, 2012, and on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network on May 22, 2012. By the time this description is written, it is the only Sega Genesis game to recieve an English localization upon rerelease.
Gameplay is a mix of action-adventure, platformer and RPG genres, in which the player traverses a 2D landscape fighting a variety of monsters as well as interacting with non-playable characters. Combat was made a little more complex while the inventory system was simplified in comparison with previous games in the series. A new addition is the Pepelogoo companion, many sections of the game revolve around using it. Also, items can now be permanently missed.
As a late entry in the Genesis' lineup it really shows the power of the system: brightly-colored visuals, multiple simultaneous layers of parallax, tight controls and quality sound all illustrate the Genesis' true potential.
All Life Drops collected, all treasure found, Legendary Arms acquired. After the playthrough, I use the sound test screen to allow title screen music to play to the end, then I show the secret Debug Shop. Some extra lines and scenes are shown at the end, but I could miss a few.
This longplay uses official translation from the 2012 Virtual Console rerelease.
