Player's Review

Yosemite Sam calls on Detective Daffy Duck to retrieve his precious golden movie awards. Mad Professor Duckbrain has stolen the awards and wants a million bucks to give them back.

Daffy Duck in Hollywood is a 1995 action-platformer video game for Sega Genesis made by Psionic Systems. There are also ports of this game on Sega Master System and Sega Game Gear. The game is loosely inspired by the Looney Tunes animated short Daffy Duck in Hollywood. The goal of the game is to clear each area in every level of dynamite sticks before they explode. Until an area is cleared, Daffy can?t progress further in a level. Enemies are defeated by shooting them with bubble gun, which can be upgraded to improve its firing rate and amount of projectiles per shot as well as to change bubble trajectory and to give bubbles ability to home on enemies. Daffy has to make his way through three different worlds of six levels each. Each world is based on two movie genres, and the worlds? names are references to Looney Tunes episodes. At the beginning of the game, the six levels of the first world can be selected in any order. Completing all six unlocks the next world.

I think aesthetically speaking the developers did a good job of transferring the feel of a wacky cartoon into the gameplay. However, the result is not a good game, although the animations, sound and colors are good. The viewing area is way too small and players will often find themselves rushing blindly into enemies and hazards at breakneck speed. The only way to avoid this is to either have prior knowledge of a level?s layout or to stop at the end of every platform and look down or up, but the latter diminishes your chances to get spawning items.

Played on Hard difficulty. I collected all golden movie awards for the good ending. After the credits, I show the bad ending and some animations and the main menu theme. There are lots of secrets in this game. I tried to get all items, but I can't be sure I got them all. They just seem to randomly appear at places my guide doesn't show, while not appearing at places my guide does show. Maybe they change and add depending on what difficulty you play on, and what sequence you collect items in. The bosses only drop treasure chests if you damage them from behind before finishing them off by attacking from the front.
