Player's Review

Both venom (2:25) and rapier (26:44) class championships completed. Rapier is identical with venom, except for faster speed and some graphical background details (time of day). Single race of unlocked 'firestar' track run at end the of the video.

Saturn version has set 20fps limit whereas PSX version should run in half a decent frame rate (30fps). Further compared, there are some graphical differences and some exclusive audio tracks.

Gameplay-wise Saturn version is bad. Lack of frame rate makes it difficult estimating proper timing for turns and control response. In some races like Greenland, it's almost impossible to make some slow turns without crashing a wall, even after breaking speed to almost zero. Not sure how badly level design affected gameplay in the PSX version. Presumably the Saturn version should be faster even with sucky frame rate. I also dislike the bounce effect when you grace a wall, sometimes it leaves you bouncing from wall to wall for a long time in narrow places (such as tunnels).

I think sequels quickly improved on design, but wouldn't recommend trying Wipeout 2097 for Saturn as it apparently runs with less than 17 frames / second. Saturn is able to run 3D games with 30fps so I'd accuse Wipeout games being poor ports compared to Playstation originals.

Sorry about the bumper cam view for those who don't like it, never learnt to play racing games from third-person view.
