Ultraman: Hikari no Kyojin Densetsu

Ultraman for the Sega saturn. Like previous version for mega drive, the game is not that impressive and not really making best use of the consoles hardware. The game even uses an external cartridge as well as the cd, its function...unknown. It doesn't seem to speed up game loading at all and for extra save game memory ...would be such a waste. The whole package would have been expensive and the end result just not worth the cost.

It is a bit better than genesis version in the sense that you can smash building up around you in a 3d environment with some zoom in/out function when fighters are close up. There are 5 ultraman variants in this game each with slightly different power sets. The controls are quite simple and not to difficult to access each of the powers. Even easier once I set the controls to add each power to its own button. The scoring system is a little strange and I never really figures what I was doing right or wrong for the S ranking. I'm guessing causing as little damage to the scenery as possible is a big part of it. Not so much the damage you have taken. Maybe how much armour of the enemy was destroyed.

I complete the game five times, once with each Ultraman. Doing so unlocks a Play Movies option which allows you to play back the few and very short fmv clips of Ultraman launching... The endings only differ by 2-3 second clip at the end of the Ultraman victory flyaway. Quite disappointing really and more could have been done with the fmv aspect of the game for some kind of story. I finish off the video with a quick play of .vs mode. it seems there are a few moves left in the bad guys that they didn't show during the play through.
