Player's Review

"Maximum Firepower Required - With a fiery blast from your Hydra Rockets you must annihilate a ruthless tyrant's military arsenal. Strafe his airfields and rip into his tank armies as you challenge the Madman's forces in a series of devastating strikes. 27 dangerous missions stand between you and the ultimate showdown!"

Super Nintendo version of the Genesis game from Electronic Arts. Maybe the weakest version for the 16 bit generation as it seems to mostly resembles the genesis game but with a notable smaller play area and the music did not transfer over well at all and I expect the same is true for the remaining strike games on snes. The Intro is cut down and looks censored. This version of the madman has gone soft.

In the longplay, I go with default co-pilot and play through each mission in order Completion time can certainly be quicker by ignoring enemies and mia pickups, but where is the fun in that. While I save the mia co pilot in mission 1, it never allowed me to swap between missions, so I guess I'd need to restart and use the provided passcode to use him.

The game plays as expected. Move between mission targets while keeping an eye on ammo, fuel and armour. Rescuing mia's and prisoners will refill armour at collection points. Fuel and ammo is plentiful but hidden so blowing up some building can help reveal those. Each level also has a faster winch to find. Holding L or R puts you in hover mode allowing you to strafe although I find it much easier to just fly over a target and turn fast.

In mission four when going after the nuclear plant, 3 of the four Crotales are near indestructible. It was only when recording the segacd game I noticed that there are two radar stations near the nuclear plant and that's why they were hitting harder than expected here.

Overall, it's an alright conversion if a snes is all you had. The genesis game is better and the Amiga version even more so. The music conversion is not great though and the game does suffer slowdown when there is a lot going on.
