Player's Review

This HotD title seems to be set before the very first game in the series chronologically wise. Plus that it never made its way into the arcades, and remained console exclusive as a result. A PS3 version was released afterwards, adding two extra levels to both modes, a new NPC character and a re-designed HUD.

Unlike other games in the series, this one doesn't feature branched paths the player can choose to progress into the game. However, depending on the mode chosen, a different path is shown, though the Director's Cut route for each level is much longer.

The localized versions of this game feature a different logo and a trailer for 'MadWorld' that is accessible right from the start via the Extras menu. However, unlike in the later released JP version, this one suffers from a game breaking bug at Fetid Waters that causes the mutants to not appear unless you restart the game from boot-up. I've even heard of cases where the game softlocked at different places, though all of them were on real units and to be honest, I didn't encounter any crashes at all on Dolphin.

Like in my longplay of the JP version, both Story and Director's Cut modes are covered here, collecting all Golden Brains and saving all civilians in the process. Successfully completing the Golden Brain quest in Director's Cut mode unlocks a screamer cutscene that is shown as part of the extras (see timecodes for reference). I also try to show all weapons, including the unlockable Hand Cannon and the minigun (you get equipped with it by default for the final boss). Completing Director's Cut also unlocks the optional Dual Wield mode that lets you use two guns at once using two wiimotes (basically a co-op mode but in 1P mode perspective).

I also added the mini-games and Gallery which are at the end of the video, for the latter I used a save file that has everything unlocked. However, for some unknown reason you can't unlock the last 'special' music track by any means, even if all the other unlockable stuff is gotten. Sega could've made a bugfix update to fix this issue but decided to address it in the revamped PS3 version.
