Player's Review

Developed by Feelplus Inc. and published by AQ Interactive, this game seems to be another haunted house simulator (as marketed in the American region), with a plot that is based on the Japanese film 'Ju-On'. Despite its semi-obscurity, it has received a good amount of interest in the horror community ever since its release.

Plot: 'The game claims that when a person dies with a deep and burning grudge, a curse is born. When an average housewife in Nerima, Japan, was murdered in a grisly fashion, it gave rise to a curse so powerful that it threatens to kill at a pace thought unimaginable before. The curse manifests on those who encounter the curse by any means, such as entering Saeki House or being in contact with somebody who is already cursed. Once Erika Yamada is exposed to the curse, while searching for her dog in an abandoned warehouse, the entire Yamada family is put in grave danger when she returns home. Each family member must face his or her individual challenge alone, and only by overcoming the curse together will the family become free again.'

The gameplay mechanics are pretty simple, which can be compared to Calling, Nanashi no Game and Ikenie no Yoru (aka Night of the Sacrifice), where you just run away from ghosts and other dangers, in this case the main antagonist is a girl who goes by the name of Kayako, by the way her look reminds me of Asahi in Nanashi no Game. The latter is an indicator that these games share so many similarities between them. The only downside I can find is that it's very short in length, resulting in a wasted potential.

In this longplay, while collecting everything on the way through, I also do a bit of exploration with the intention of showing off some easter eggs (a couple of them in Chapter 1 were shown in the Courage Test sample after credits). Getting all pieces of documents in the first four chapters unlocks the final one at the cursed house, where Erika and her family used to live in. After the credits I attached a sample of the Courage Test mode, which consists of replaying a level that was previously completed in the regular Story mode, without the secret pieces of documents and also allowing a second person to use their Wii Remote to throw jumpscares at the player.

As an additional note, I should also mention that this longplay was done with the PAL version, which has a few script differences when compared to the XSEED-published US version.
