Jumper: Griffin's Story
|
Player's Review
Based on the 2008 film. This version tells the story of the Jumper, Griffin, which was portrayed by Jamie Bell in the movie and voiced by him in the game, telling the backstory of how he learned of being a jumper and the family tragedy that lead him into war against the Paladins.
This one, despite looking like a typical beat 'em up at first glance, is really weird in terms of gameplay mechanics. There are dedicated buttons for 'jumping' (more like warping if you ask me) and performing special moves which are triggered randomly, though some of them require the entire stamina meter maxed out. The game is four stages long and each one is divided into three segments, where the final one ends with a boss fight that is most of the times frustrating as they can deal huge amounts of damage even if you're trying to block their attacks. Fortunately the melee attack can be sort-of upgraded by finding a good weapon at some hidden place, and can be switched to another with just pressing a certain button.
Speaking of hidden stuff, there are also 24 artifacts in total (six in each stage) and in this longplay I picked them all, one of them in Rome stage is placed at a branched path so I replayed it before the final showdown. Very short in terms of length, but it seems to be plagued with bugs which can sometimes break the game, I once saw in a playthrough of the PS2 version that sometimes the character goes out of bounds, forcing them to restart the section they are in. Yeah, at least they are so kind sections can be replayed, not the entire stages themselves.
Overall a game that should probably be avoided, even the 'supposedly better' X360 version suffers from its own set of flaws that are pretty much similar to what is encountered here.
