Player's Review

Mafia: Definitive Edition is a 2020 action-adventure game, developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K Games. A remake of the 2002 video game Mafia, it is the fourth main installment in the Mafia series. Set within the fictional city of Lost Heaven during the 1930s, the story follows the rise and fall of taxi driver-turned-mobster Tommy Angelo within the Salieri crime family. Alongside the story mode, players can also explore the city in an open world mode, which features side missions and the ability to find secrets at their own leisure. The remake brought with it several improvements to the original's story and gameplay, including a rebuilt setting, enhanced mission dynamics, and the introduction of motorcycles to the Mafia series. In addition, developers formed a brand new voice cast for the characters, and created an original score for the remake.

This is a Classic difficulty playthrough, with three separate switches to the Easy difficulty - one for the race segment, since I dislike that one enough as is, even without the added challenge; and two for two of the segments in which you need to look after your vehicle's HP, because those are just ridiculous and I'd never finish the playthrough without switching.

There were a fair few deaths and I edited most of them out, but I left one in, specifically to demonstrate how wonky some of the checkpoints in this game are (ie. you get a checkpoint and if it's reloaded, you're loaded ahead and someplace else. Also, you pretty much always lose your throwables and sometimes even weapons upon reloading a checkpoint, you might notice some discrepancies in this regard).

Additionally, I initially planned on getting all story collectibles, but to my amazement the collectibles don't reset between different saves, so tough luck.

Finally, my apologies for the remarkably choppy pre-rendered cutscenes, my game just randomly decided to play them like that and then suddenly it just stopped.
