Player's Review

"The streets are clear, the lights are green and nothing is stopping you from taking the GT 64 Challenge. GT Racing puts the dream of professional racing into the hands of the ordinary driver. Specially re-engineered passenger cars take on the streets from Tokyo to the USA in the search for greater realism and improved challenges. GT 64 takes this one stage further by placing you behind the wheel of one of these monster machines. Accurately modelled car systems demand your every response be as real as if you were actually there, putting your faith in yourself and in the equipment around you."

A racing game similar to Sega's SuperGT or GT24 but not nearly as good or fun to play. The presentation is reasonable enough but the actual racing just does not feel right with a big emphasis on sliding and the overall low framerate doesnt really convey a good sense of speed.

The game is quite short with only six tracks but you can set between 3 and 24 laps to lengthen it out if you really wanted. Completing the game opens up the reverse versions of each track accessible in the time trial and vs modes. I wanted to play as the Ocean decaled car but I found it slides out way to much and takes to long to regain traction causing you to lose speed as the wheels just spin. The NSX is more manageable as well as fast enough to win on Normal difficulty. I didn't spend much time to properly assess the other cars and determine the best. Thankfully the game didn't demand a Hard playthrough to unlock anything.

The longplay goes through all six of the championship stages to complete the game, unlock all reverse tracks and roll the credits at the end.
