Player's Review

"Arcade Action on your Nintendo 64! Blast your choice of highly tuned sports coupe across a selection of gruelling tracks in a bid to become the RR champion. 25 cars with classic and new exclusive tracks! 4 player simultaneous racing modes! Precise controls and incredibly fast cars!"

Set after Ridge Racer Revolution and before Rage Racer comes RR64. A surprisingly good version of the game on N64 featuring four tracks three of which have three variations as well as reverse versions.

The game is fast and the controls are highly responsive and very twitchy later in the game. It plays as well as any other ridge racer game but perhaps goes on a bit too long with having to play all tracks twice and requiring you to really in the zone to get through it. I play mostly in first person view but I do show chase view once I'm comfortably in first and can lower the concentration a bit. I find the cars difficult to control in chase view as you cant always say what's ahead as the scenery is blocking the view.

In the longplay I show an entire run of the Grand Prix mode while doing the car attacks in between. I show replays after each race but only the main highlight of passing cars at the start with each car. After completing the forward Class Z races I unlock a few bonus cars and show them in a couple of the reverse Class Z races. One thing I noticed in the later races is that there seems to be a boss car that his it in for you. It usually starts in the middle of the pack but will be fighting its way to the front with you with the intention of winning it far more aggressively than any other car in the race. If you can stay ahead of that car, you can be sure victory will be yours.

Two hidden cars remain so after completing the game I jump into time trial mode. The 99 lap run I cut to just 3 laps for the sake of the video. After showing the Ultra64 car awarded for completing the game I cheat (gasp!) to unlock the final Agent-00 car that normally requires two players to come joint first and second in the stage 7 or 8 race. I finish off by showing the awards and end the game there.
