Player's Review

Nintendo 64 entry of the Wipeout franchise which became a hit on the PS1 in 1995. This isn't really a 100% longplay due to some Show stoppers due to Game or Emu bugs. I unlocked 2 of the 4 Gold challenges, but was unable to go back into the challenges menu screen without the game freezing up, so I was unable to show these.

I found the game really difficult, far more difficult than the ps1 and Amiga/pc versions which I have completed. The analogue controls should make it easier, but becomes a hinderence as you often need hard left/right (simulating the Digitial dpad) to get round corners at speed. My craft will look twitchy at times as I had the analogue controls set to a higher sensitivity to better emulate the dpad im used to. Also the first few races in each challenge are very difficult as you only have 3 laps to get things done and the ai racers don't exactly just let you win even on these low speed levels. The original games are far more forgiving.

The games biggest departure from the original games is the fact that you don't race in specific speed tiered tournaments. Instead you race some presetup challenges in a given challenge type, often giving you a ship not best suited to the particular track.

All that said its not bad entry and better still if you really do like a challenging game. It feels faster than the ps1 games, but does lack some lighting and audio effects.

00:00:00 - Race Challenges 1 - 6. All Golded and gold challenge unlocked. Velocitar Track unlocked.

00:21:00 - Time Trials 1 - 6. Three silvers. I just couldn't find the extra 0.5 seconds to get the golds. The times are really that tight. Brings meme bad memories of 'Beat Zico' in Wipeout on PS3. I did manage to get 3 golds though, but did not unlock the Gold challenge. Piranha Ii craft unlocked.

00:28:20 - Weapon challenges 1 - 6 all golds. Gold challenge unlocked. These are easier than I make it look as you don't really need to race these. Just keep in the time limit, hold back and shoot at all craft. Cyclone unlocked. This is going to come in really handy for next challenges set.

00:48:07 - Super Combo challenges. 5 Golds 1 Silver. Challenge 5 is just maddening. I can come first, or I can kill 8 challengers. But I cant do them at the same god damned time!

And that's pretty much all the challenges over. The game wont let me go back and re-attempt the silvers or gold challenges without locking up. So there is maybe another Well Done screen not shown in this video.

01:08:22 - Single race on the unlocked Velocitar track with unlocked Piranha II ship at phantom speed. This really shows of the game at full speed. I show abit of first person view here as well. The game credits then follows.
