Casper: Friends Around the World
|
Player's Review
Based on the cartoon series, this game was released as a PlayStation exclusive and served as the base for 'Casper: Spirit Dimensions' on the PS2 and GameCube, mainly because stuff here is rendered in full 3D except for the minigame in each stage (minus Egypt) where you have to retrieve the specific piece of map to access the next one.
In the game, Casper goes through many places around the world in order to save Earth from Kibosh and the Ghostly Trio, who are there to ruin Casper's mission.
The gameplay mechanics are pretty much typical of a 3D platformer from late 90's, where you just need to reach the level end while picking up items, powerups and killing any baddies. There are 40 crystals in each stage and you have to collect all of them to access the lost land of Atlantis and encounter the real final boss, as well as the real ending. Very short game overall, but still with some entertainment value packed in. I've added the bad ending that is triggered if any of the crystals are missing, at the end of the video.
The game is presented in 4:3 aspect ratio for FMVs and 512x480 for the rest. Because of this, I've attached a secondary encode that shows everything in 4:3 aspect ratio thanks to the powers of editing tools.
