Player's Review

If there was any game I wish I had not started, it would be this one. An early ps1 game, a port of the original 3DO game. So many levels it just stopped being fun to play after a while and goes on for far to long.

The game starts off well but the controls soon become quite annoying and feel over sensitive at times with the ship turning over it self. This becomes more annoying as you progress and upgrade your ship as you spend the entire game wrestling with the controls.

The game it self isn't bad however and had it just ended after the first 15 levels after 2 hours or so, that would have been enough and left a mostly positive impression of the game. Instead however, there are 2 more pyramids to go through, each harder than the previous one and the game becomes a chore now as the game is not offering up anything new to see and do. I get quite careless and just start flying into stuff to kill quick and not bother so much with the crystals to try and get through the game quickly.

There are multiple weapons in the game but honestly, the standard laser is probably the best one to level up as the targeting system for the other weapons are mostly useless and don't target what want most of the time, although the bomb can be handy if aimed right. Sam launchers are the most annoying enemy weapon as they constantly fire from seemingly invisible launchpads. It was good I go a huge batch of ecm bombs at the start of the game. I do like it when I get the megaship pick-up by collecting 3 green and one red crystal (doesn't happen often) then you become uber with loads of fire power and just smash through the level.

There are some really fiendish levels later in the game where you need to protect other craft and or mothership as well as meet the requirements of the main mission. These can be very aggravating as its not always easy to tell who is in trouble and its usually a random stray rocket or laser shot that does them in. And its an auto game over if they die, not a simple lose a life. Very frustrating.
