Player's Review

"Welcome to the future of racing. The Firebugs competition is the fastest, most exciting sport known to man. The action is spread across five magnificent worlds, where highly skilled pilots race in unique armoured battlecraft."

A fairly short and relatively easy racing game from the developers of the Rollcage series. It's another game that makes use of the Playstation hires mode (512x256) so you may want to set a 16:9 aspect so that the game stretches to a more acceptable 4:3 look. A late ps1 release in 2002.

There are 3 leagues to enter each with 5 racing zones, each league being more difficult than the previous. For every race you can choose a specific Racer/vehicle. Each vehicle comes with its own primary weapon which could be a projectile or protective field. The secondary weapon is a random pickup while on the track.

The way the race works is a little different from most racing games. First race is a qualifier. If you come 2nd then you have to go to the heats which is 3 technical tracks where hopefully you get enough points to go to the final. However, if you come first in the qualifier, you go direct to the final. That gives a potential of 25 races in each league which I only show in the final league. In the easier leagues I just show 10 races to keep the video length down.

In the first league, I use the racer appropriate to the stage. After winning the zone, it then unlocks the secondary vehicle gfx (normally reserved for player 2). I then show these alternate skins in the 2nd league. Throughout the longplay you will see me firing off weapons for no real reason. You cant just drop them so I usually just fire them off to get rid of them as a pickup is always close by. For the third league I mix it up a bit and show zones in random order

After completing the game, I then show off all the unlocked bonus modes accessed through the practice area. Nothing special but I include them anyway. Finally in the first bonus round (Charlies mode) which is just the Archipelago track in reverse I show a hidden bonus room which shows off the game developers.
