Player's Review

Zanac x Zanac is a 15th Anniversary edition by compile in 2001 which included the original famicom disk and rom versions of zanac as well as a special edition version of that game. The main feature is the ps1 remake of the game 'Zanac Neo' and is what is recorded for this longplay. Zanac has already been recorded on the nes so is not needed to be shown here however I may record the special edition later to compare against the original versions.

The game has a feats or achievements feature which saves and special things you may have done such as no miss, no deaths, ect.. However I mistakenly played the game as 'guest' so non of that stuff is shown even though I had made a profile when testing the game ...doh!

I play through the game on Very Hard and set out to level up all weapons in one run as well as collect all fairies and eye-eyes. I wasn't trying for a no miss run at the start as is not easy to do at same time as managing weapon pickups for powerups however I do try for no miss in the later stages of the game. I think one of the feats it to only complete one level with no miss and not whole game. Another feat would be for 3 Landers (max powerup) and 20 just for the hell of it. However I had a real tough time making them appear and even then it was near the end of the game. I think I did manage to get 3. Nothing is unlocked for finishing the game. There is an extra ship in the game that can be obtained after completing 20 times (20 hours approx.) but hell to that. There is also a code that can be entered.

One of the core mechanics in this game is 'Invincibility'. So before anyone cries out that I let shots pass right through me, that's how the game is played. Every time you collect an item you get a few seconds of invincibility which you should exploit to get in close and destroy enemies quickly. A skilled player would leave items on screen as long as possible and chain them to extend invincibility as long as possible. You wont see any of that from me though Wink
