Player's Review

Wreckin Crew, published by Telstar on the Playstation and ms dos pc. in 1998

This is a karting game a lot like the game, Street Racer. It looks technically good on the ole ps1 and moves very smoothly. There are 10 racers 2 choose (8 initially) and they each come with there own special weapons. Completing any championship (including training) will unlock a racers ending movie. There are only 4 tracks in the game with some variations. You can imagine that it gets quite tedious/repetitive after a while. I try to set a lower number of laps, but it turns out it just for Arcade mode :/

In each track are plenty of pickups, side routes and secret teleports to exploit. The pickups are always in the same location and memorising them certainly helps in later races. 2 tracks have a hidden secret button which enable some super speed jumps. While I do not use all the teleports, I try to show them all at least once somewhere in the video. The best ones to exploit are shown in the final championship as it is such a grind.

In the Longplay, I play through each championship mode in turn. I select a different racer each time for some variety. The training mode shows all 4 tracks in their short form. this is the only time we will see these. The bronze champion ship shows the 4 tracks in there full form. Silver adds night versions of these tracks and Gold championship is mirror mode versions of the day and night tracks. Completing gold also unlocks 'The Gimp' racer.

At this point you would hope this is the end and the credits role but no. In the game are 4 hidden keys which you need to unlock the final championship. They can all be collected in the silver and gold championships or in arcade once those tracks have been unlocked. I chose to show them all separately at this point for easier viewing and I also show briefly the racers I have not used yet.

The final championship is a real grind. Like the rest of the game it is 5 laps and also 1 v 1. It is 16 races with Day/Night variations and both again in Mirror mode. I need a fast car and the Mine drop ability of The Gimp comes in real handy for keeping the ai racer in check. I skip a few races near the end as I have enough of a point lead. Once this championship is beaten we finally get the no frills credit role as well as unlocking 'Bizley'

Finally to finish off, I add use a passcode to unlock the remaining ending movies and show them all off in order. As mentioned above, I could have simply completed training mode with them but why waste more time than needed.
