Google translation of the back cover:-
"Ace pilots of yesteryear, take off urgently!!
●Under the supervision of the original author Yutaka Suzuki, the masterpiece "Afterburner II" has been remade using modern technology. Incorporating factors that could not be realized with the hardware performance of the time, the new generation "Afterburner II'' is now available on PlayStation 2!
●The background, aircraft, etc. have all been converted into 3D polygons, allowing you to experience the realism that will make you sweat! With the outstanding tempo and powerful explosion effects, the "Hanbe-like exhilaration'' is brought to the extreme.
●The original mode has 23 stages, the same as the original. Countless enemy planes will block your path. Use two types of weapons: the Vulcan cannon and homing missile, and techniques such as afterburner and rolling to complete your mission! - In Arrange mode, you can play three new models: "AV-8B Harrier II'', "A-10A Thunderbolt II'', and "F-117 Nighthawk'', with emphasis on agility, emphasis on heavy bombing, emphasis on homing accuracy, etc. Utilize the aircraft's characteristics to record high scores and earn "medals"!
●Faithfully reproduces the tricks that would make ace pilots cry in 1985, such as the "100-shot command'' and "secret scenario.'' How many tricks can you discover?"

It's Afterburner II but 3D-Fied on the Playstation 2. It is a kind of evolutionary step before the likes of Afterburner PSP and Climax int her Arcade. Whilst it plays mostly like the arcade game it doesnt feel quite the same and it can be challenging to even target some of the enemies at the sides here and the Vulcan cannon is mostly useless. Overall the game ok though.

In the longplay I start in Arcade mode and show the hidden scenario messages requiring specific button combos at each interlude. Following that I play arranged mode. In this mode you can choose a different craft with different characteristics. I went with the bomber as it its cannon actually kills stuff and very useful when the missiles run out. Because enemies don't appear to be dying quick enough or require multiple hits I think I'm firing of the rockets to quickly. If there are any other differences in this mode, I cant tell what they are.

Like every other version I have recorded I can not tell what the different medals are or how they are awarded. I use the t.k password at the highscore and all it seems to do is give highest medal. No idea if it can be earned normally. I'm not sure what the '100 shot command' from the description refers to(maybe a translation error?) but i cant see how it would be possible to get 100 kills in a round, at least not without some tas tool magic.
