Player's Review

"The success of Pinball Dreams and Pinball Fantasies, Brings the two together for your Game Boy Advance. Experience various atmospheres through 8 different table themes including Steel Wheel, Partyland, Nightmare ... Two games in one cartridge! test your skills against multiple ramps, traps and targets to shoot."

Pinball Dreams and Fantasies got ported to many systems by Spidersoft and play notably different from the Amiga original. This one is by Binary Nine and more closely resembles the Amiga version. Interestingly, Pinball Dreams has been recoloured to make better use of the higher palette available. Maybe what an Amiga AGA version might have looked like. The original music and sfx is used but strangely some of the audio cues appear to be bugged and not playing at the right time.

The Spidersoft conversions always had weird ball physics which made the ball take a random path and never going where you want or need it to with some really difficult to hit targets. The Binary Nine game has far more predictable physics and while the ball can sometimes do random things, it will often go where you expect it to. But there are always exceptions. In general, though, the ball plays well and it seems like effort has been made to ensure the ball stays in play and not constantly aiming for the out lanes. The ball can be influenced by tapping the flippers while the ball is in motion as well as risking the tilt function.

For the most part, it is a good conversion but there are some off bugs that can be seen on each table but nothing game breaking. That is until we play the billion-dollar game show. For some reason it was really difficult to reach the outer ramp in order to reach the vault to collect the prizes. Collecting the prizes also seemed more difficult than it's supposed to be and strangely when it finally clicks, they come all at once. Stones and Bones was another odd one where the tower was constantly accessible after collecting the Key just once. The multipliers did not seem to be collectable at all.

Overall, the presentation is great throughout. When a game ends you are automatically sent back to the menu where you can choose to replay or select another table. Interestingly, the game does save scores to SRam. The original cartridge had no such function, but the game does and will save the scores in an emu or when playing the game from a flash cart featuring sram save ability.

The longplay shows playing each table and aiming for the largest Jackpot on that table. Sometimes it can be hard to achieve and takes a while to get there. I show the title music at the end of the video.
