Player's Review
RPG by Squaresoft. Remake of the Game Boy game of the same name. Known as Final Fantasy Legend in NA, but don't tell anyone it's NOT an actual Final Fantasy game. :3
Follow a group of adventurers as they climb a big-ass tower. There may or may not be Chainsaws and God involved.
Gameplay is pretty much the same as the original: make a group of 4 party members that work the same way as the original: Humans power up by items and have the most inventory space, Mutants/Espers power up by fighting and can use magic but have small inventory space, and Monsters cannibalize other monsters to transform. You still have the same ol' weapons, all that fun stuff! There are some QoL changes, like knowing if your esper learned an ability and what stat increased, what your monster can transform into, AND A DASH BUTTON! Key items are also in their own little menu so no more having to hold 2 items to get the Eraser99 during not-Japan area. Humans are no longer OP since stats cap at 99 (no 255 Agility/Strength shenanigans). This can actually make the game pretty challenging.
This longplay mashes the A button on a lot of fights while trying to get to the top of the world!...with a Human, 2 Mu--Espers, and a monster. There's a few grinding sections: getting monster to "level" 13 while on the Continent and amassing a bit of Kero in World 3 to buy a Flare book (money-gain in World 3 fortress area got nerfed) God fight is done twice: once for the classic meme kill (Chainsaw kill, which is STILL in this version) and another without the Chainsaw, which is actually difficult. God made me do mental math!
