Player's Review

"Deep in the Earth, a powerful ancient crystal hums, fueling the balance of nature. But when its toxic twin plummets to Earth, nature totters on the edge of extinction! Only one hope survives - Kolibri. Though small and alone, the hummingbird must battle the invasive mutation in all its malignant form to restore Earth. But at what cost? Feel the rush as Kolibri zips, dives and dodges in intoxicating aerial acrobatics! Soar through the splendors of nature! Kolibri's world has perfect realism, depth and a panoramic menagerie of colors!
Combat bizarre, vicious creatures created by the alien crystal to hunt Kolibri! See nature at its most helpless... and most powerful as Kolibri gains strength. Help Kolibri conquer the cosmic threat in a classic battle of good and evil! Abundant weapons and pick-ups, including lasers, rings of fire and smart bombs, pack this game with punch!"

Arguably the best hummingbird-based shooter for the 32X. Great looking game set in a colourful world where you control a bird and save the world Wink

An interesting aspect of this shooter is the the level requirements varies from time to time keeping the game interesting. The levels are a mix of shoot em up, just destroy everything to end the level with a few levels that push you along to the end, you just have to survive!. Then there is the larger maze like levels with some simple puzzle elements involving finding the wall breakers and use the on the walls that wont let you pass otherwise. There are earth crystals spread about where you can change your weapon if you wish although there is plenty of opportunity to do that from enemy weapon drops. It can get annoying though when accidently collecting a poor weapon that's either hard to aim or does little damage. Some walls require utilising a chainball enemy to destroy them and these can be annoying as they are easily destroyed and require one of the force push weapons to move it into place

Game was played on Hard but there is nothing unlocked for doing so. It just makes life difficult with constantly respawning enemies. The final level is a large maze with an end boss. There are many save crystals along the way so its not right back to the start should you die. You don't have lives so you can keep playing until you finally crack it and get the password for the next level. You do have limited energy though but there are shield rings to collect as well as an energy shield you can call upon that doubles up as a smart bomb to clear the screen. You do need to collect energy pods though to keep it charged. There are plenty of other dangers in the game such as Toads and Chameleons that will eat and insta kill you as well as plants that can draw you in and consume you although plants can be destroyed from a distance.
