Player's Review

Spectrum 48k

Red Heat, released by Ocean Software in 1989. The +3 disk version is being played.

The small screen area and monochrome makes this quite an ugly game especially as it seems to use some really shimmery scrolling technique. However the game moves smoothly enough. The game can be quite difficult especially when enemies come armed in later levels but all you need to do is duck to avoid them. Enemies can also be avoided by staying on the move walking left-right but you still need to be aware of where they are and if any are about to shoot at you. The game is by no means easy though. At least the game ends though and can be completed faster than I have in this video. I spent to much time punching constant streams of enemies.

A slight bug that may be emu related is that Arnies hair flickers on/off every 2 or so frames. This seems to be attributed to the ULA of the +2A and +3 as the tape versions do the same unless played on a 48k/128k or +2. In some ways I am surprised that the game wasn't patched for +3 support being as it is released on disk. in other ways I am not surprised as the publisher probably didn't give a damn and was just a way to sell more copies of old games.
