Player's Review

"In this pure homage to the classic 90s Arcade Shoot 'em up you take control of one of the most technologically advanced space ships ever... Features: Flexible and efficient gameplay. Recover power ups by killing enemies. Music composed by Allister Brimble (Alien Breed, Body Blows, Project-X, Colonization, Driver or Superfrog)."

Sequel to Visco’s Neo-Geo Arcade game Andro Dunos release in 1992. Andro Dunos II was also released on Steam, Playstation4, Xbox, Nintendo switch and even the Dreamcast!. The 3DS game allows you to play in both 2D and 3D modes as you would expect but the resolution has taken a slight hit which is clearly visible on the title screens with obvious lines missing. There is also a gfx glitch on the tutorial screen which flashes all the buttons instead of the actions it is trying to show (Confirmed on hardware and emulation). There seems to be a gfx glitch with one of the stage six boss abilities. The game also take 20 seconds or so to load at the start which I've trimmed for the video. Overall I think the 3DS game could have done with a little more polish in it's presentation.

The game is fast and furious with plenty to shoot at and plenty to avoid as the screen fills with projectiles if you don't destroy enemies fast enough Your craft features four weapons to help in different situations shooting in varied directions. There is also a charged shot which does more damage but can can leave that weapon in a drained state for a few seconds until it recharges. You can switch to another weapon at normal power but no charged shot until .. charged. During play you can collect weapon upgrades to make them more powerful but if you also collect enough blue power ups, you will get a bonus weapon power up option at the end of the stage. Each level has 30 blue orbs to collect with a level up rewarded for each 10 collected.

The game has seven levels. Completing these will unlock Boss Rush Mode. Completing Boss Rush will unlock the Bonus levels taken from the original 1992 game. Once unlocked they can be played in the Stage Select mode. There is no real story to game. Just pick up and play, destroy everything, the end. This might be one of the last 3DS games to have seen a physical cartridge release.
