"MANY AGES AGO...
The Earth was populated by beings that lived in peace and harmony until a fearsome scientist named IMBU and his henchmen arrived to steal earth's energy, capture all the inhabitants and lock them up in crystal cells. Miraculously, three creatures escaped: BAU, BAM and BOM. They became Gem Smashers, traveling the world to spring, spin, and smash the crystal cells where their friends are imprisoned. It's up to you to help our little heroes survive! 3 different playable characters, each with its unique speed, bounce and style: STORY MODE: 8 different worlds to play with over 100 levels. Overcome the levels and defeat the bosses. BATTLE MODE: Challenge your friends, see who truly has mastered the game."

Not much to say on this one. It's an arcade action puzzle type game. Match the colour of the gems, collect any items dropped for score and move on to the next level, simples! Well it would be if there weren't skull icons to collide with and death potions to accidently collect. We start with story mode and before you begin you can choose a character to play with. Each has slightly different stats and I go with the more balanced one. Each character will start on a different level of the map but you will have to go through them all to attain 100%.

Each area is broken up into sets of level that can be 2-5 levels long and competing each set will unlock a boss battle for that area. The bosses are the most annoying part of the game as you get to land one hit and then it goes into a frenzy for the next 30 seconds or so and because they take up so much space can easily collide with you robbing you of your forth star. At the end of each area you are awarded a score and a star rating based on the score and I believe you need two or more to gain enough to unlock other areas. The forth star seems to be attributed to achieving a high target score as well as not taking any hits during the levels. Some areas have secret levels to find for a further score boost.
Completing areas in the game will unlock artwork to view in the extras section as well as defeating bosses and playing as each character. These are shown at the end of the video

After completing the game, I show playing through an area with the other characters to maybe show slight differences during play which also unlocks their artwork without needing to play. Another mode is available in the 3DS version. This is 30 timed levels of collecting gems placed around a column that you need to rotate round. Fairly simple but those skull icons are easily run into. The goal is to pickup as many of the items drops as possible to boost your overall score at the end. Completing this mode unlocks one final piece of artwork in the extras section.
