"Experience hard-hitting shoot'em-up action in this stunning arcade-quality game from the same people that brought you ALIEN BREED SPECIAL EDITION... Incredible graphics, awesome speech/sound-fx and a COIN-OP feel, all combine to make PROJECT-X a true Amiga classic! If you haven't experienced PROJECT-X you simply haven't experienced the best Arcade action the Amiga has to offer!
Five levels of staggering Arcade quality graphics and sound! , Brilliant music and incredible speech effects! Super fast and super smooth!, Full screen 32 colour graphics! Massive End-Of-Level Aliens! Awesome bonus sections and so much more! NEW REVISED EDITION This version contains various game changes and tweaks. THREE DISKS OF PURE ACTION!"
Original Four disk release previously recorded by Ironclaw. This longplay is a recording of the Three disk re-release special edition 93. The original game is well regarded as a classic shoot em up on the Amiga making good use of the hardware capabilities but also being a euro game it uses cheesy enemy patterns and a screen full of enemy fire to take the fun out of it not nearly as well balanced as the arcade games it wants to imitate. This re-release attempts to right some wrongs and make the game a bit more enjoyable to play. The game contains five levels for you to blast through with powerups to collect in order to powerup weapons of your choice. Get killed though and you lose a few levels of power which you will want to restore. defeat the end of level bosses to win, there's nothing more to it than that.
Whist making changes to the gameplay, the game also lost a disk in order to meet costs for the new budget release. Most notable changes between the two versions include only one title screen tune with no option to select the atmospheric track. All the levels have been cut short so you don't end up facing each of the mini bosses multiple times resulting in less enemy waves and a lot less random projectiles flying around. In the original I believe each level had only two or three checkpoints to jump back to if you are killed. In the new game you continue at the next wave which is a massive help. There are two difficulty modes (rookie/Arcade) with rookie making the enemies die much quicker. If I recall right , the original wouldn't let you pass level two on easy mode. And finally, the final bombing run at the end of the game has been cut from the new version.
Overall, a great Amiga game for the time making good use of overscan for a large playfield. The longplay shown a full run of the game on Arcade difficulty and once complete I show level one at rookie difficulty with autofire off as well as a death or two. It's interesting to note that you cant use the stealth powerup on first boss as it automatically gets cancelled. It's a nice powerup for cheesing the other bosses though.
