"Test Drive: Drive five of the world's most exotic cars!
If you've ever wondered what it would be like to experience the power and performance of the world's most exclusive cars, wonder no more. Accolade's Test Drive puts you behind the wheel of five exceptional auto-mobiles in a driving simulation that is guaranteed to ignite your adrenaline. Is your heart strapped in? Good. Hit warp speed in a Ferrari Testarossa, blow the doors off with a Lotus Turbo Esprit, corner until the tires scream in a Porsche 911 Turbo, bring your oil to a boil in a Lamborghini Countach and dust the fuzz in a Corvette. Test Drive's authentic graphics, sterling sound and lifelike animation allow you to sense the awesome characteristics of each machine. They handle like the real thing. They brake like the real thing. They move like the real thing. In fact, Test Drive is so realistic you'll swear the G-Force has pinned you to your seat. Accolade's Test Drive. Welcome to life in the fast lane."

Test Drive released for pretty much every viable platform at the time of release each with there own differences based on the platforms limitations. The Commodore64 version is the main one I played back then and is The best version as far as I'm concerned and it was a few years later until I played the Amiga game but not nearly as much. I'm playing the Amiga game in NTSC as its originaly a US made game which gives it a little if only subtle speed boost over running on a pal machine.

The longplay shows a run through with each car. A single run consist of five road sections with the aim of getting from A to B in the quickest time possible for the best score outcome. In each car you need to shift in time before blowing the engine to maintain high speed. You cant turn and accelerate at the same time but the priority is on the cornering. To fast and you will go over the cliff!. Other obstacles include traffic on both sides of the road as well as police which will catch up to you handing you a ticket if caught. You get five attempts and its up to you how cautious you are. Its all about time vs score. You are not racing against anything other than your own best scores.

Overall, its a good version of the game although beeping on the scanner and police siren seem to be missing. I don't remember if the C64 can do this but holding the fire button whilst taking a corner you car will be guided round which is very useful for maintaining speed on very sharp bends. I show the odd crash during play so that you can see the surprise on the oncoming drivers face and get arrested a couple of times.
