Player's Review

"21st Century Entertainment Ltd presents Pinball Mania, the next step in computer pinball simulation. As the follow up to the international award winner Pinball Fantasies, Mania showcases a whole host of new features, music and graphics.
CHOICE-find your favourite from Tarantula, Kick-off. Jailbreak and Jackpot. MULTI-BALL-needs a cool head and a quick hand. USER OPTIONS-adjust settings to play it your way If you want pinball on your Amiga, there is nothing closer than this."

This game was released only for AGA equipped Amigas as well as PC Dos. Although it claims to be a follow up of Pinball Fantasies, it is not really in the same league as that game and others developed by Digital Illusions (DICE) and is much more comparable to Spidersofts previous game Pinball Dreams II. The Artwork is alright but not remotely comparable to the DI games with o music but its the game play that stands out with the way the ball moves and you can tell when Spidersoft ported other pinball games to various console platforms but enough of ranting on Spidersoft.

There's not much to say about the game other than it's pinball! The game has four table each with there own theme and objectives. I spend some time in each one trying to complete as many objectives as I can before moving on to the next table. Some objectives can be difficult to reach or have multiple goals to trigger them making them quite time consuming and wacky ball physics doesnt help.

The longplay shows all four tables trying to show as much of each table as possible played on medium difficulty as the ball just wont go anywhere on fast/hard. The Tarantula table in particular is quite bad. It is impossible to hit the upper ramps unless playing on easy/slow but then the ball is so slow playing becomes a chore although its still bounces around in a non sensical way. I couldn't show as much of this table as I wanted to. Fang is really difficult to get to. Throughout the video you will see the ball do odd things and even getting stuck on the flippers.

Overall, its not a bad packin game but it lacks the polish of the other big pinball games published by 21st Century. Being AGA only may have limited it's success but was done for ease of porting from Dos I guess. As a Pack in game I certainly did play it, but Pinball Fantasies AGA which was an extra received at the same time saw much more playtime. In a string of great pinball games from 21st century, Mania is a low point. Thomas Pinball from Spidersoft was a better game I think keeping to the simpler gameplay of Pinball Dreams but again AGA only that might have limited it's success. Obsession pinball released the same year for A500 class machines really putting Mania to shame.
