Player's Review
"A beautiful 4 table children's pinball simulator, featuring THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE and his friends JAMES, PERCY and TOBY. Each table is individually themed with loads of fun packed features, music and sound effects, that will keep children and adults playing for hours. Easy 'set up' to let you play the game your way."
Release the same year as Pinball Mania, another tragic pinball simulator from Spidersoft. Thomas pinball has the inviting look, cant fault the artwork but the rest of it is classic Spidersoft. Like Mania, you can set the tilt of the table to set the difficulty, speed of the ball but the problem is the ball is too heavy, you cant reach the top of the table making some features un reachable. I've tried all three settings but they don't make much difference in this game. The ball physics are better than mania in that the ball movement isn't quite so random, but its still messed up as the ball never goes in the direction you need it to. The music jingles are quite basic like they really phoned them in for this one.
In the longplay I spend a little time on each table attempting to light as many features as I can. The whole run is a chore and not a good longplay on the whole. For a game targeted at young children I don't find much fun here being stuck to the bottom of each table and even though there are no side out lanes it can still be frustrating as you don't get a moment to think as the ball is always hovering over the central drain. The tilt function gets abused a lot to try and get the ball to move but still rarely goes where I want.
Overall, not a very good game. It looks nice but that's all it has going for it. The initial Thomas table is probably the best one but that's not saying much. I couldn't get anything done on the James table and Percy was strangely low scoring. Toby should have been good but the ball just would not go up the upper ramps.
