Player's Review

"EARTH, 2017, We didn't listen to the warnings. We decided to ignore the decline of our bee population, and now their guardians have arrived. You must pilot the 1981 Galencia Fighter and restore order. Before its too late!"

Galencia is an original game for the C64 based or inspired by the arcade game Galaga which never saw an official conversion to the C64. Note that Galencia is its own game and not trying to be an arcade conversion. The gameplay is smooth and the enemy sprites are all detailed and colourful. The game has an interesting mechanic for awarding a twin shooting ability by allowing the Siren to capture your ship costing you a life and then a chance to rescue the ship. Extra lives and score bonuses can be earned in the challenge levels and also the twin ship if you don't already have it. The game has 50 levels giving you a goal to achieve. Much better than being an endless score attack.

I've recorded three releases of this game as each one has a few minor differences. For each video I have set the stars and score colours uniquely for each video. This is the Steam release of the game and maybe the games final form. It has its own set of unique title screens and different logo colours. This version also contains a hidden Easter egg (F1 plus fire on initial title screen) which is a C64 conversion of the iPhone game Paper Plane. This longplay is played in Tournament mode which allows only one life and unable to collect any more!

Overall its a well made game for the C64. Great gfx and plenty of music. The game has nice overall presentation with mini animations showing launch and landing. Most notable is the comms and score/bonus displays that display in the border
