AN AWESOME REVELATION, A TERRIFYING TRUTH BEGINS TO EMERGE THIS COULD ONLY BE THE WORK OF..... THE JOKER"

This is an 'arcade adventure' game with action overtones. The game consists of two plots revolving around batman's worst enemies - The Penguin and the Joker. Each plot is played in similar fashion-though the various locations and problems encountered will vary.

The stories so far....

THE PENGUIN PLOT - "A BIRD IN THE HAND"
The penguin having been released from jail, decides to set up an umbrella factory, near his Gotham City mansion, but of course old habits never die hard and this is but a cover up for his ingenious plan to take over the world using an army of robotic penguins! As BATMAN can you close down the hidden master control computer and stop this evil conspiracy?

THE JOKER PLOT - "A FETE WORSE THAN DEATH"
Robin has mysteriously disappeared-the only clue found is a single playing card, the call of the infamous "joker!" Batman's arch enemy has returned. On close examination the bat computer reveals a secret message hidden on the flip side of the card...

"Robin heads for a fate worse than death, the fuse is lit-so don't waste time, follow your nose and remember, there's no place like home! boom! boom!" Can you uncover the mystery, save robin and defeat the Joker? Time is running out.

------------

This is often brought up as well remembered game back from 1988 on all the 8 and 16bit systems it was released on but it was never one I was particularly fond of as I just found the game frustrating but even now with the wonder of emus , save states and game guides I'm still no fan of the game. Batman The Movie is more my Jam. That's not to say it is a bad game. Quite the opposite in fact that each version plays well on its respective platform and doesnt seem like it was just a five minute conversion to the lower platforms.

The game operates like a point and click adventure by navigating the map, picking up objects and using them in the right places. There is no time limit but there are enemies on nearly every screen determined to take you down. My main issue with the game isn't so much the puzzle aspect but the maze like areas where you can easily lose your bearings as so many screens look the same. The inventory screen can be annoying as well as you can only perform one action at a time and using it causes the music to restart every single time.

The longplay is split up into the two levels. Getting 100% seems impossible. I've looked up guides for all versions of the game and cant really do anything different. I show where all objects are even if they are not useful and just take up inventory space, which leads to item management issues later on causing me to eat the food too quickly to make space. Once you know where everything is and have your plan, the best strategy seems to be just ignore the enemies and make use of all the food at the right time to keep energy up.

There are items that serve no use at all like the dagger and elephant and using the grenade hurts you. The clogs also slow you down so are not used. I'm not sure what the magnet does but it can be used anywhere for its percentage reward. The same with the tools, needed to save robin can be used anywhere. It doesnt always make sense. At the end of the game I hang around in order to let the music play out in full uninterrupted. The rope can be used as soon as it is dropped by Joker to end the game as bonkers as that sounds.
