Player's Review

"The object of the game is to make the best Burgers in town by guiding Mr. Wimpy around the playfield. Mr. Wimpy's task is to make his delicious Burgers and you must guide him around the screen to achieve this. First assemble the ingredients avoiding the moving manholes and Waldo the burger-thief. Now make the Wimpy Burgers avoiding the kitchen rebels. If you are trapped by the rebels you can pepper them into oblivion but only three times, unless you pick up the bonus gems, the ice cream or the cup of coffee, which give you more chances to shoot."

This is a home conversion of the arcade Burger Time by Data East in 1982 but with the added theme of Mr Wimpy based on a chain of Wimpy fast food restaurants in the UK.

The game opens with an annoying level where you need to fetch ingredients whilst avoiding manholes which move! and a green alien burger thief and this is where you can lose precious lives you will need for the main game as the game does not reward any more during play.

The main game consists of moving around the platforms dropping burger parts whist avoiding angry eggs and spoons!. A well timed drop of the burger parts can also crush enemies sending them to the bottom of the screen. You are also equipped with pepper than can pause the enemies in their tracks for a moment. You only get four but can be replenished by collecting coffee or ice cream that start on the top level working there way down.

I think there are only seven main levels and I just manage to show them before the game loops back to the start as I was carless with the lives during play. The game starts of ok, but soon becomes very frustrating with only single ladders connect the platforms and often with no way out when going for the far away burger parts. To add to the frustration, you have to align perfectly with the ladders to use them and its so easy to get jammed up as an enemy races towards you. The game kind of pauses when burger parts drop and this can eat into the stun time if you used pepper.
