Player's Review

"This game follows the non-stop action of the movie and is a direct conversion of the famous coin-op. All games players and STAR WARS® fans alike will enjoy this version of the world's best know space-age epic. Brought to you by the team who produced the top-selling STAR WARS® game, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACKTM is the next stage of the unfolding drama. The player takes the role of Luke Skywalker, piloting a snow-speeder against the huge Imperial Walkers. Darth Vader controls his forces with deadly cunning, using his Probots to search and attack the Rebel Base. The action continues as the player becomes Han Solo in the Millennium Falcon, looking for safety in the galaxy whilst being attacked by Tie-Fighters and dodging asteroid storms."

Another good conversion to the C64 and much more inline with its Spectrum counterpart. The game plays notably faster than Star Wars almost to the point of being to twitchy as the probots kind of bound round the screen making them hard to aim at making the first level the most difficult. The game has four levels but most of the time is spent in level two as the walkers are easy to destroy leaving you lots of time to farm for score. Level three and four are over in a blink of an eye as they are so short.

The game loops round back to the start after escaping the asteroid field with ever increasing kill counts in each loop. Meeting the kill count in each stage or not getting hit in the last also awards a jedi point. Collecting all four will reward a big bonus and a few seconds if invulnerability when the loop restarts.
