Player's Review

"When terrorists overrun and capture a space colony, there's only one course of action. Send in
the deadliest, most expert team of trained killers available. Send in -the Quartet! An action- packed arcade game for one or two players."

Another Sega arcade original that gets a poor C64 conversion barely resembling the arcade game. It's a good attempt getting the entire game to fit in a single load but that has lead to some low detail gfx work especially in later levels. The levels are quite small and you just need to move left or right depending from where you start in order to find the big baddie. Destroying drops a key which you can swiftly take to the exit.

At the very start of the game you can choose one of four characters. Each has there own initial strength but collecting powerups evens it all out regardless of who you go with. The enemies can move in an odd fashion and quickly catch up to you. Sprite collision is a bit weird in the game and can help or hinder you. The giant ball is only deadly at the top half for instance. The smaller enemies can be a bit hit n miss that may or may not work in your favour. There are powerups including a jetpack for flying through the level, a spring for higher jumping and others for better weapons fire and faster movement.

There are 23 levels in this conversion and then the game loops back to level 1 with no fan fare. Just keep scoring for that leader board. You don't get lives but an energy bar that constantly ticks down so getting through levels quick and gaining an energy bonus is the objective to staying alive. You only lose 100 units when taking a hit which is nothing really. There are powerup to collect which will keep energy replenished. It takes sometime to lose it all at the end of the video.
