"In World Games, you'll wing your way around the globe beating the pants off foreigners in eight international events, each one authentic to its country of origin. You'll see incredible, exotic locales as you travel the world circuit. Why, you'll even have your own" on-screen tour guide to smooth your way. The events the Olympics forgot. To become the champion, you'll have to dive off the treacherous cliffs of Acapulco. Go stomach to stomach with a 400 pound Japanese sumo wrestler. Jump barrels in Germany. And pump heavy iron in Russia. Next, it's off to Scotland for the caber toss. Canada, for the near impossible log roll. France, to ski the Slalom. And, at last, the U.S. of A., to ride the meanest bull in the states. This, then, is a challenge of global proportions. The question is, are you ready to go the distance? "

'The Games' series from Epyx are probably amongst the most well known games on the C64 as every owner likely encountered them at some point through their numerous re-releases, cover tape releases and forms part of the games package that get included on modern day retro console releases. They may also be considered a marmite game in that whilst the game look great and are overall well presented, they can be very fiddly to play with some events having odd controls and timing is everything. Competing games, as fun as they were are not really in the same class and generally relied on frantic wiggle mechanics.

The game is best played as a group in multiplayer, actual competition. For the longplay however, it is just me. That makes it a little boring but prevents the video being dragged out to long. I don't play particularly well but I do try to get a reasonable score. The controls and input latency are what I'm mostly up against. In each events, I do try to show some fails where extra attempts are available.

It's 1986 and the next game in the series is getting a notable gfx update. We have some longer tunes now but not always playing during play. Controls have been simplified somewhat for each event but the input timing required is as super tight as ever. You need to be looking at the players feet in most cases and typing your movements to coincide with them. dare to blink and it could all be over. The final event, Sumo Wrestling is only one round and against the computer, could be over in a second if not paying attention.
