Player's Review

"For a longer lasting, sensory blasting, earth shattering experience .... get your teeth into "The Muncher" computer game. A game of devastation and destruction featuring a large and vengeful prehistoric monster from the dawn of time out to destroy modern day Japan."

Bit of a weird history with this one. The game started out as simply 'Monster' as shown on the title screen but for whatever reason was not released as such. At some point Gremlin got hold of it and reamed it to T-Wrecks but it never got released under that name. Instead, some kind of deal was made with Chewits to use ;The Muncher; name and imagery and the game was finally released although only the title picture has anything to do do with Chewits. No part of the game was adjusted.

The game plays similarly to Rampage in that you control the dinosaur and smash your way to victory. The Army will be out to stop you so as well as smashing building, you can attack helicopters, tanks and soldiers as well as eat the people and vehicle remains for energy. You can climb building to reach higher helicopters as well as smashing them from the sides, but unlike rampage there are no people in the buildings so its hardly worth the effort to climb. Just swing the tail and bring the whole building down!

Along the way, you can collect eggs for extra lives although you do need to charge them up first with toxic waste. The same toxic waste can refill your energy but you can only do one or the other. There is no ending. After the nine levels the game loops back to the start. It's all about the points! The controls are probably the weakest part of the game. They can feel unresponsive at times with high amount of input lag. Energy can also go down way to fast when you have a couple of soldiers on screen and especially with tans and jets.
