Player's Review

"PILOT YOUR AH-64 HELICOPTER AGAINST A RUTHLESS TYRANT
With a fiery blast from your Hydra Rockets you must annihilate the military arsenal. Take out tanks, chemical weapons plants, airplanes and SCUD'S.
Get debriefings and plan missions on detailed maps. Pick- up fuel, manage weapon supplies and feel the power of a modern, multi-million pound attack chopper."

Desert Strike was ported to many of the 16-Bit and even some 8-bit systems of the time, mostly on consoles. The Amiga got a fantastic version of the game which if you can get over the disk loaded is overall a better presented game than even the original Genesis game. I'm not sure exactly what version the PC Dos game is best on but it is most like the Amiga game but without any voice samples and just a few pieces of fm synth. Its overall presentation is quite lacking in comparison. However we do get an exclusive fifth mission, Supergun. The Jungle Strike Conversion even with it's added FMV elements cheeped out by re-using desert strike menus and music.

The longplay shows playing all five missions. At the start of each one I show all the mission objectives and set off. missions four and five give the missions as you unlock them so I show them as appropriate. The missions are best tackled in order else you run the risk of flying into a danger zone where the enemies fire fast hit harder and become bullet sponges. I avoid destroying other objectives on route just to keep the missions easier to follow. Whilst out flying you need to keep an eye on fuel and ammo as well as armour. Armour can be replenish by finding it as well as saving people and returning them to the landing zones. hidden supplies can be in certain destructible buildings.

Overall, it's a good version of the game inline with the genesis game. but not as well presented. I have played on a slower 386 level machine to avoid the screen taring encountered in jungle strike. The extra mission in this version can be quite challenging as ammo and even armour is limited compared to fuel and with so many enemy tanks driving around near mission objectives you go through it quite quickly.
