Player's Review
"The Challenge:- Race for your life- there are no rules, no speed limits and no going back! Watch out for roadblocks, oil spills and the cops! Reach speeds of at least 150mph whilst punching, kicking and clubbing your opponent before he gets you first! The adrenalin is pumping...and he's waiting for you...!"
Road Rash on the Master System is an excellent conversion. Everything great about the original Genesis game is contained here so if a Master System was all you had, you could get this game game knowing it's as good as it's going to get with nothing major cut so you are getting the full Road Rash experience.
The game starts of with you as the new comer to the Rashers starting out at level 1 with 1000$ with your sights set on becoming number one!. Each level contains five races which go up on length as you progress through the five levels. You only need to achieve forth place to call a stage done and able to progress onto the next level. However you aim should always be first to maximise your winnings as you will need a new bike to keep up with the competition in the higher levels. You will need a new bike to get through level 2 but best avoid the pink one as it's just a heavier version of your starter bike and wont get you higher placement. You should save some money though in case you get arrested and fined during a race.
During the race you can get involved in a little rider combat where you attempt to kick and punch your opponents off their bike. Of course they can do the same to you! Some riders might also have a baton which you can take off of them which provided a little bit more damage potential. For fun you can also manoeuvre an opponent to collide with oncoming cars. However the combat is not as fun as it should be. The game is fairly easy compared with other versions and it's not easy to keep you and an opponent on screen long enough to have a battle. Sure you can slow down but then you risk other bikers catching up to you. If you are doing well with your winnings and buying the faster bikes, you will cream the competition with ease.
Overall a very good conversion and you wouldn't expect anything less from Probe Software. Unfortunately, there is no ending and the game just loops level five in the hope of parting you with your cash.
