Player's Review

"Super Monaco GP's World Championship sends you and your pit crew on a 16-race international circuit. Burn rubber with the best drivers around in a piston-pounding test of speed, road savvy, and endurance!"

Super Monaco GP is an original Arcade game by Sega which saw conversions to most computers and consoles of the time. The original game is played in first person and so is most of the ports but like with GP Rider, Master System has to be different and has again goe with a split screen layout played from behind the car.

The game looks like a generic racer but is overall quite a difficult game, well so was every other version or should I say overly challenging. There are sixteen races to play through and before each you can setup your vehicle to best match the track. Choosing the right engine, wing and tyres is paramount for doing well but even then, taking corners seem to be more difficult than they need to be as you are thrown to the sides and forced to take them slow whilst the opposition flies by at warp speed.

Your objective is to get the highest score overall across the sixteen races but in order to proceed you must claim at least 10th position else its game over. Thankfully the finishing order is quite random amongst the opposition so its not like you are just competing against one driver although the computer controlled car will but up a fight.

Overall, it's a nice enough game, well presented and some nice tunes but I find the difficulty takes away much of the enjoyment. If it just controlled a little better and didn't feel like your tyres were wasting away by the second lap I might be less adverse to it but the opposing racer can crash multiple times, come to a complete stop and yet still be on your tail and that's annoys me.
