Player's Review
"High action road racing adventure. Tests your driving technique, speed and distance travelled over a rich variety of courses. Race at top speed towards the finish line. Enjoy such realistic features as acceleration, lane changes, diversified terrain, sudden curves, and much more. (For 1 player)
Nice port of the game and fun as well. The time limit is fair and not overly frustrating, unlike the Game Gear version! Out Run 3-D can be extremely challenging as well on Expert level, but at least it's a choice in that game.
All 5 routes shown and all 3 soundtracks used. On the last run (standard version), I enable the 'Hardmode cheat?' which takes 10 seconds off the starting time. While I'm sure there are things that could have been done better, I think it a good conversion for the master system hardware. The music is recognisable and even has an FM soundtrack for those with the hardware to play it.
The car handling works well in this version where it isn't too difficult to stay on the track just by feathering the throttle which can save more time than using the brake. Traffic is sparse and usually plenty of room between vehicles on screen to slip through. A few areas where the track suddenly snakes left/right with no time to react but for the most part its an easy ride. That said you can only really afford 2 or maybe three crashes to make it through the route.
