Player's Review

Exclusively released for the Sega Y Board arcade machines in 1991, this game in particular shares most of the gameplay aspects with other lightgun games by Sega such as Line of Fire. It also served as a major inspiration for the 1994 arcade adaptation of Jurassic Park (running on Sega System 32 hardware) and spawned a sequel in 1995 for the Sega Model 2 machine, which remained arcade exclusive too.

The plot in this game is very simple: Flint and his beautiful girlf... err, female colleague Mary found the so called 'Jewels of Guaramure' by accident, without knowing it was a very dangerous trap and now they have to escape from the place safely, on a mine cart.

You (and your partner if playing in co-op mode) are equipped with a firegun to go through the whole game, which cannot be upgraded nor switched to a different weapon, leaving no other strategy than to get good with aiming and hope for the best, while trying to find health kits hidden in some sections of the stages. In terms of difficulty it seems to be a bit unforgiving, much like in the aforementioned Jurassic Park arcade game, even at the default Normal setting, requiring to spend at least two or three credit coins to reach the end and, if possible, with a partner because doing that alone can be probably a pain.

The game offers many ways of completing it, as all stages except for the second let you pick either a left or right path. For the sake of completion, in this longplay I beat the whole game twice, one where the left path sub-stages are shown and another for the right path ones, which are enough to cover every single unique area in the game. There are no multiple endings in this game (unlike the sequel that has a secret bad ending), the final output is always the same independently of the path chosen as demonstrated here.
