Player's Review

From MobyGames:
'A biolab in Tokyo has succumbed to a parasitic outbreak, mutating everything inside. Now it's up to the D.E.F. agents to clean up this mess. The three D.E.F. agents tasked with the heavy grunt work are: Rick who is armed with a laser bazooka, Mituki who is armed with dual machine guns, and Vogt who is armed with a blaster and also carries knives. Each of their weapons have a faster normal shot but can also fire a slower charged up shot for a more devastating attack. Players can also find sub cartridges items like napalm and gas grenades to use on. There are also items the agents can pick up to help themselves such as life packs and guard vests.'

Arcade exclusive prequel to Chaos Break, a Resident Evil clone that was released on the PSX. One may think the mission is pretty much straightforward to follow, but it isn't due to many things, the first one being difficulty as it seems to be unforgiving in later sections EVEN on default settings, so I played both runs on Easy. The second is that the ending output is heavily dependent on game time (under 30 minutes, otherwise you get the bad ending no matter what), fulfilling the sub-quest of destroying the meteorite at stage 4A, as well as core kill ratio which requires at least 90%, to ensure this requirement is met you have to avoid killing too many enemies where possible. Yes, it may sound insane but for some reason very few people know, the game counts each core spawn towards the total. I went through the good ending route with 96% core kill ratio and I have a very good reason why: when you do 100% kill ratio, all you get after credits is a wall of text that says 'Congratulations! You achieved 100% clearance.' and that's it, at the cost of not getting the canon cutscene that connects the plot with Chaos Break.

A second playthrough is also shown off, because when you fail at the side missions, you're sent to alternate routes leading to either stage 3B or 4B, and also included the bad ending while I was at it. At the end I attached snippets of alternate routes in stages 3A and 3B, one after failing and another after passing their respective side missions.
